des würd bei mir aber für einen lacher sorgen und mich weniger stören, als die begründungen der 4th down entscheidungen von nolan (e.g. "from a confidence-standpoint, going for it was blablabla..." ;-)).

Here's the long snap, and yes, the punter gets this one away, it's kind of a line-drive punt, caught at the 30...

...by the return man, he tries to run but there's good coverage, he heads for the sideline, tries to break a tackle but is forced out of bounds at the 35 for a small return. But there is a penalty-marker on the field.

Ref: "During the return: holding by the return team, 10 yds, first down."

So, because of the penalty, the Kobras will start their next possession at their own 20 when we come back.

Three-receivers set, one man in the backfield. Here's the snap, the QB drops back to throw, has time but no open man. Now he dumps it short to the running back but he doesn't find any room, either. He tries to go to the outside but is forced out of bounds at the line of scrimmage bringing up 2nd-and-10.
Great coverage and great awareness by the defense.

The QB takes the snap, delayed handoff to the running back, he goes up the middle, avoids a tackle, breaks another one, has the First Down, still on his feet, cuts to the right, breaks another tackle, HAS A BLOCKER DOWN THE SIDELINE AND MIGHT BE GONE! HE'S AT THE 30... THE 20... THE 10... AND HE'S PUSHED OUT OF BOUNDS AT THE 2-YD LINE.
A touchdown-saving tackle by the free safety against the running back who ran out of gas just before he could plunge into the endzone. A 78-yd run and this might be the knock-out punch coming up with only a little more than three minutes played in the second half, how about that?! First-and-Goal!

Haben aber tiefe Pässe nicht sowieso bessere Chancen, wenn die Defense die Box voll stellt und auf den Lauf geht? Trotzdem würde jede zweite Bombe ja incomplete fallen...

das ist ein gutes argument.  man muss aber auch beruecksichtigen, dass ein tiefer pass zeit braucht, sich zu entwickeln.  bis dahin ist dann auch schon laengst klar, dass kein lauf kommen wird, und es koennen sich wieder mehr defender ins backfield orientieren...

abgesehen davon: dass jede zweite bomb incomplete faellt ist so oder so eine eigenheit der bomb, unabhaengig von der defense.
